So, what is ozone, exactly? Ozone is a highly reactive molecule made of three oxygen atoms, and it can be good or bad depending on where it’s found in the atmosphere. When it forms naturally in the Earth’s upper atmosphere (the stratosphere), it protects us from the sun’s radiation. However, ozone at the ground level (the troposphere) acts as a harmful air pollutant can lead to health complications.
Another common form of pollution is particulate matter 2.5 (PM 2.5). That might sound complicated, but really this can be dust, dirt, smoke, or any particle pollution found in the air that is smaller than 2.5 micrometers. It comes from man-made and natural sources that can cause smog and other harmful effects. If PM2.5 levels are high, it’s best to stay inside.
